The Hungarian Atlantic Council and the International Centre for Development and Democratic Transition participated in the Tusványos event for the second consecutive year. This year, they contributed to the programme of the 34th Summer University with two panel discussions.
On the morning of 24 July, a roundtable discussion held at the Kós Károly Tent explored the topic of “Indigenous National Minorities and Security in Europe.” The discussion, featuring Lóránt Vincze, György Csóti, Prof. Dr. Paul Videsott, and Zoltán Kántor, highlighted the close connection between minority rights, cultural self-determination, and European security challenges. The panel emphasised that national communities living within stable, rule-of-law-based frameworks do not represent a security risk, but rather constitute a value for Europe. The afternoon panel, entitled “On the Threshold of a New World Order,” held at the György Schöpflin Tent, explored the deeper implications of the rapid transformation of international politics. Moderated by György Csóti, the discussion with Balázs Orbán, Gábor Fodor, Tamás Dávid-Barrett, and István Gyarmati addressed the restructuring of global power relations, the new phases of great-power competition, and their impact on Central Europe. Participants agreed that the emerging new world order brings not only challenges but also opportunities, particularly if the countries of the region are able to interpret and shape global processes according to their own interests. The questions and answers raised by the speakers reflected not only on current challenges but also offered a future-oriented perspective — whether regarding the reform of European minority protection or Hungarian responses to the transformation of global politics.
